Brand Timeline

  • 1938
    Company Founder, Mr Wong Yip Wing opened a small neighbourhood grocery store on Shanghai Street in Yau Ma Tei, thus creating the Kee Wah brand.
  • 1944
    The first outlet with on-site bakery commenced operations
  • 1946
    Specialty products such as mooncakes, bridal cakes and pastries were launched
  • 1950
    The “Guaranteed Exchange” return policy was first established, establishing the company’s reputation of quality assurance.
  • 1971
    Existing wood burning stoves were replaced by electric ovens, vastly improving product quality and production efficiency.
  • 1980
    New machineries were introduced to produce individually packaged cakes and pastries, while Egg rolls were also launched for the first time. Meanwhile the site on Pei Ho Street, Sham Shui Po was rebuilt as Goodwin Mansion.
  • 1982
    Opening of first overseas outlet in Taiwan
  • 1984
    Opening of first American outlet in Los Angeles
  • 1988
    Grand opening of Kee Wah Industrial Building and introduction of modern technologies in the production plant enhanced product quality and efficiency, ensuring all products were freshly made in Hong Kong.
  • 1997
    The baton of the business were passed to the second generation; Mr Kevin S Wong revamped the company’s branding and product packaging by engaging renowned graphic designer Mr Suen Siu Wah to overhaul the corporate identity, product packaging, outlet interiors and staff uniforms.
  • 2000
    Mr Eric Tsang became Kee Wah’s image ambassador
  • 2004
    “Kee Wah Gift” were launched. Product designs featuring artworks by local Hong Kong artist Ah-Chung (Yim Yee King) attracted both local and tourist customers.
  • 2005
    Ms Annie Liu became spokesperson of the Kee Wah Bridal Cakes, and the first outlet in mainland China opened in Shenzhen.
  • 2009
    Production plant in Tai Po commenced production
  • 2010
    Flagship store with on-site baking facilities opened in busy commercial districts in Guangzhou, providing customers with fresh-baked pastries on daily basis.
  • 2012
    Collaborated with Ocean Park and opened the Group’s only nostalgia-themed store in Ocean Park’s “Old Hong Kong” attraction.
  • 2013
    Opening of the first Shanghai outlet in Shanghai ICC.
  • 2017
    Kee Wah's Flagship store is located in a Grade III historic building in Wan Chai. Opened Kee Wah Tearoom and Kee Wah Studio on the first and second floors respectively.
